In my opinion these 4 items best reflect my skills and development as an effective communicator. 3 from ENG 2003 and 1 from an unhack event all completed during the current academic year 2022-2023. I try ranking them from my perspective but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Unhack Group Project

I have selected this piece to showcase because I wanted to show people where my communication skills were before taking Eng 2003 Effective Engineering Communication course. Looking back I lacked the skills of communication and had difficulty expressing some things with my group.

This piece displays how poorly of a communicator I was at the time. I was indubitably pushed me out of my comfort zone. I was in a setting where I was put into a group of engineering students that I have never met before and they seemed to all know each other, they lacked the passion to take advantage of our situation and were attending to just get the marks. The most common things in group projects is the lack of communication, strategy and engagement. In the time we spent together only around 3 or 5 people at best were working on the project and were hoping we could finish this in time. Looking back there were many missed opportunities on both ends and a lot of miscommunication.

Out of the 4 cases that I have listed I think this would be last for me because I did not go the right way about it. This work was to showcase how far I have come from then to after taking this course. I feel like if I was put in the same situation now I would have handled it a lot differently and as a team we would have completed more work.

Job Interview Questions

Assignment 2 ENG 2003

I have selected this piece because I am proud of how I performed during the assignment. I showed my skills as a communicator and exceeded my expectations.

This piece shows the improvement on communication under stressful situations, in this case job interviews. This assignment definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone, especially not having much experience in job interviews. I practiced for around 3 hours with different job interview questions before completing the assignment and was using all the tips given in the class / tutorial.

Out of the 4 items that I am presenting I think this work is up there but I don't think it is the best work because there was a lot of miscommunication on my end which led to me submitting this assignment late. I’m not really proud of that.

Brouchure

I selected this piece because I feel like I put the most effort into this assignment. I wish I had some pictures of how my brochure first looked but comparing how it started to what I handed is comical at best.

Assignemnt 3 ENG 2003

Although this piece of work has its flaws I think this piece would describe how I have improved as a communicator. From the very beginning it grabs my attention with the “title page” which is the picture of the light bulb and continuous with the same colour scheme. I thought having different fonts of text would make the brochure more enticing however according to the rubric it shouldn’t. I wouldn’t exactly say it pushed me out of my comfort zone in the sense of doing something new that you are scared of doing. More like in the sense of work needed to be done and I was pushed out of my comfort of resting in order to complete the work.

In my opinion, out of the 4 items that I am presenting right now I think this is one of my best works if not the best work that I am showing, this is because of how proud I am of the amount of work I put in and how the brochure turned out. Although I did get a significantly lower mark than I thought I would like to because of details I missed out on.

Self Driving Technology Presentation

Assignment 4 ENG 2003

I selected this piece for my showcase because it shows my development from the beginning of this course to the end. Comparing this piece to the first piece.

This piece shows how I have developed my communication skills with my peers and how ENG 2003 has helped me improve my communication in the real world. This piece definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone although the people I worked with I got to know over the course of the semester and was relieved to have them in my group. I believe that was the easiest group project I had.

I believe that it may be second out of the 4 items that I have showcased because it displays my development as a communicator, indicating how this course has helped me improve with finishing relatively early to the deadline and following through the requirements with my team. We easily communicated amongst each other on the tasks at hand.
